Cognetics

Cognetics teaches K-12 students the process of creative problem solving through fact gathering, problem analysis, idea generation, and solution selection.  Cognetics is an achievement-based rather than a competition-based program.

Cognetics Teams are selected and trained by the school coordinator.  Since Cognetics is a sport of the mind, the coach/coordinator must consider basic thinking skills when training his or her mental athletes, as coaches of physical sports must consider physical skills for their athletes.  Teams are made up of a maximum of seven students.

Judges are selected and trained by school coordinators/coaches.  One judge must be provided for each team/problem.  Please note:  If a school has several teams for one problem a judge must be provided for each team.

Each school, which supplies a trained student judge per problem or per team, will receive 10 points toward presentation scores.

Please note: Judges are not permitted to also act as a presenting team member on the day they judge.

ADULT JUDGES WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Facilitators are what make Cognetics Expositions work.  Each school must supply one trained room facilitator.  Facilitators manage the room's agenda, and they need chaperones that will move, seat and supervise their own teams.

Before The Exposition

Review score sheets for the problem(s) your judge(s) will be evaluating.  Have judges fill in a form in the Cognetics Management Manual and give it to the team to bring to the Exposition.  This form will guarantee the team 10 points toward their total score.  Have students bring sharpened pencils, with erasers, to the Exposition.  Review the facilitator's instructions in the Cognetics Management Manual, which will describe what will happen the day of the Exposition.

Posters on Parade

Posters on Parade is an icebreaker for teams to get to see one another.  This is done 30 minutes before Expo presentations are given.  Requirements are in the Cognetics Management Manual. Each team is required to have one poster, which reflects the teams presentation theme.  Points are given for posters.

Awards

Registered team members are eligible to receive awards according to the amount of points received.

RED, BLUE, BRONZE, SILVER, and GOLD SATORI awards may be earned.
