Rogate
Resources Offered in Gifted And Talented Education (ROGATE)
Teaches students in grades 6-12 basic research and critical thinking skills, which apply to all subjects areas.
- Students who participate in ROGATE have the opportunity to take the SAT
- Rogate students are divided into two groups; Critical Issue Students or Talent Search Students
- Student fees cover one or the other. Students who participate as a Critical Issue Student and a Talent Search Student must pay an additional student fee.
- Tips on Identifying Students
- Standardized Achievement Tests are a convenient and useful source for identifying students. A score of 95 or better percentile indicates academic potential to succeed.
- Products and Performance can also be used to identify students. (i.e. a piece of writing, extensive knowledge, debating ability, extensive organizational sills, etc.)
- Motivation and Interest
CRITICAL ISSUE STUDENTS
- Conduct original research based on a hypothesis
- Attend a Research In The Round Workshop (teaches how to conduct research) Each school sends a maximum of 20 students to a "Research In The Round" student workshop. Students who attend take back knowledge gained and share it with other ROGATE students back at home school.
- Research is presented at ROGATE Expositions towards the end of the school year
- Earn awards for their research when judges at an Exposition evaluate their work
- May take the SAT
- Receive an award at a Recognition Ceremony if SAT scores reach a 510 on any one or more sections of the test
TALENT SEARCH STUDENTS
- Attend Academic Interest Lectures
- Evaluate Academic Interest Lecture
- May take the SAT
- Receive an award at a Recognition Ceremony if SAT scores reach a 510 on one or more sections of the test
