Hands Across the Water

An International Teacher Exchange Program

Hands Across the Water has established a reputation for bringing world cultures back to American schools. The program began in October 1990 when 37 New Jersey teachers traveled to the Soviet Union. Now endorsed by major state and national education organizations including the National Education Association, NJ Education Association, Virginia Education Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association, the American Association of School Administrators, and others, participants include teachers from across the United States.

In 2012, Hands Across the Water started focusing its efforts on expanding the Voices from the Land project into Canada and the European Union through a grant.  The EU countries include Turkey, Spain, Italy, Latvia, Romania, and Poland .
